Some Quick Tips and Strategy Checks for Successfully Rattling and Bugling for Bulls!
- Bugle from a high spot to make a bull roar and give away his location. High pitched bugles and squeals that mimic a spike work great for getting answers.
- Move aggressively to bugling bull. Elk are noisy; sound like one by rolling rocks, cracking sticks, etc.
- But let the elk dictate how you call. If a bull screams at your hyper calls, keep them up. If he shuts up or hesitates, tone down to softer mews and whines.
- Keep cow calling as a bull approaches. If you shut up, a bull is apt to hang up, look through the timber, see no elk, smell a rat and turn back.
