About Us

Hello, my name is Jeremy Fiscus owner and operator of the RATTLECAGE.

I grew up on the Eastern plains of Colorado in a small town where farming and ranching are the main way of life. We have everything from sand hills with sage, to river bottoms with huge cottonwood trees. This makes for great habitat, and where habitat is wildlife thrives. Most of the hunters coming here are after whitetails and mule deer as far as big game.

I was introduced to the outdoors at a very young age. My Dad and most of my family are avid outdoorsmen and hunters, so I was destined to follow in their footsteps. I can remember shooting a long bow, being so young and short, that I had to let the bottom limb sit on the ground to make it the right height for me. The first thing I was successful at harvesting with my bow was a rabbit at the age of six. It didn't matter if I was hunting or going fishing with my Grandpa as long as I was outside, I was happy. I loved the outdoors then, and it has done nothing but grow on me.

As I started getting older, I was hunting everything that I could; small game such as pheasants, geese, and coyotes. In Colorado you are not legal to hunt big game until the age of twelve so those were my only options. Even then my Dad would take me with him hunting deer mostly showing me the ins and outs, and teaching me what to do in different situations. Looking back it was the best way to learn, as it wouldn't be long and I would have my chance at big game.

Where I grew up in Colorado, if you wanted to hunt deer every year you usually had to do it with stick and string. In most units it takes a few points to draw a gun tag, so if you didn't go archery you had to skip years waiting for the rifle tags. Well twelve finally came around, and I had an archery tag for the Eastern plains of Colorado. I was spotting and stalking mule deer which can be challenging in the sage covered sand hills. I had many unsuccessful attempts, but that would be expected. One day it all came together, and I was lucky enough to harvest my first deer at 14 yards. I never thought a person could have such an adrenaline rush from harvesting a deer, it was incredible, and I was hooked. I have had great luck over the years taking some good deer, elk, and antelope. My most memorable would have to be the deer I took in 2007. It was a buck I shot at twenty yards on opening day of the season. He scored out at 207 inches, and made the cover of Eastmans Bowhunting Journal.

For the past few years I have spent a good portion of the fall guiding hunts. I started taking hunters when I was 21 in the neighboring state of Wyoming. Since then I have had the opportunity to go to Nebraska chasing whitetails, and even old Mexico hunting Sonora mule deer as well as couse whitetails. Currently I am in guiding in New Mexico and Wyoming, helping with mule deer, elk, and antelope hunts. I have been so fortunate to be able to do the things I have done and seen the things I have seen, and meeting all the great people along the way.

I want to wish everyone reading this the best luck with your next hunts, and thanks for visiting!
